Orville Peck is offering his own unique take on holiday music with his new Christmas single, Happy Trails. The country music artist, known for his moody and atmospheric style, admitted that creating a holiday song was never part of his plans. “I don’t love holiday music typically,” Peck shared.
However, Peck found inspiration in the sadder side of the season. “I like a lot of the sad Christmas songs,” he said, explaining that he wanted to craft a “lonely Christmas tune” reminiscent of classic tracks like those by Bing Crosby. In Happy Trails, Peck sings about the heartache of being apart from a loved one during the holidays, wishing them “happy trails ahead” while reflecting on the bittersweet nature of love.
Despite the sorrowful tone, there’s a sense of hope woven throughout the song’s lyrics. “Nothing’s ever easy and love is hard to find. Just finding it once makes it worth all the tries,” Peck sings, offering a glimmer of optimism amid the melancholy. The track presents a fresh and introspective take on the holiday genre, with Peck’s signature style adding a layer of depth to the season’s usual cheer.
