Alternative rock duo Plastic Rhino has dropped their electrifying new single, “I Rise,” now available on all major music platforms. Released under Real World Records, the label founded by Peter Gabriel, the track blends bold energy and a Flyleaf-inspired vibe, making it a powerful offering for both alternative rock and heavy metal fans. With its haunting, witchy vigor, “I Rise” marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Los Angeles-based band.
The track’s theme explores the dark history of women’s oppression, particularly during medieval times when women who exhibited power or healing abilities were often accused of witchcraft and murdered. The inspiration for the song came during a visit to Edinburgh, where the band reflected on the city’s rich history and eerie tales of death and murder. The juxtaposition of beauty and tragedy in the city’s past sparked the creation of a song that, while dark in concept, unexpectedly emerges as a rock-pop anthem.
In their own words, the band explains: “This song is about the beauty and tragedy of our history towards women, especially in the medieval times when women who showed power or healing were accused of witchcraft and murdered in the thousands all over the world. When we visited Edinburgh, during the day it was a walk through history and beauty, but at the night, the ghost stories, death, and murder of the city made it strangely beautiful in such a sinister way. Turns out though, sometimes when you want to write something dark and demure, you end up with a rock pop bop.”
With “I Rise” setting the tone for what’s to come, Plastic Rhino is poised to capture the attention of a diverse audience and push the boundaries of alternative rock in their upcoming work.
