In 2024, newcomer Dasha made a remarkable impact on both the country and pop music scenes, largely thanks to her breakout hit, “Austin.” The song, which she had faith in from the start, began with modest numbers—just 3,000 streams. But by the time the track hit its one-year anniversary in November, it had surpassed an astonishing billion streams.
“I believed in the song so much, but obviously it had like 3,000 streams, and now we’re sitting at a billion overall, which is insane,” Dasha remarked, reflecting on the viral success. She credits much of the song’s rise to the TikTok line dance she created, though she’s quick to acknowledge the vital role of her younger audience.
“The kids have carried this song this year,” she told ABC Audio. “So many young fans at the shows just riding the rail in their cowboy hats with their dads behind them. It’s so cute. It’s so cool to see this new generation falling in love with country music.”
2024 was also the year Dasha found herself invited to the industry’s biggest stages. “Things I didn’t even think could happen have happened this year,” she said, reflecting on appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, making her debut at the Grand Ole Opry, performing at the CMT Awards, and attending the CMA Awards. Dasha also humorously recalled her uninvited entry to last year’s awards: “I snuck in last year. I was not supposed to be at the awards show, but I finessed my way into the WME after-party, and I got a free tattoo. Now they’re my agency.”
After wrapping up a successful headlining tour, Dasha took a moment to reflect on her whirlwind year. “I just bought a place. I’m moving in and got a couch two days ago,” she said with a smile. “It’s been a whirlwind to say the least. But I’m really grateful to even, like, have a sold-out headline tour. That’s not normal. It’s really cool. I’m really, really grateful.”
Dasha’s rise from viral sensation to country music star in 2024 proves that her journey is just beginning.
