Georgia rap music star OG Maco, known for his breakout hit “U Guessed It,” has passed away at the age of 32. His family confirmed the news on Friday, sharing a heartfelt statement on social media.
“With heavy hearts, we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of our beloved Ben, known to the world as OG Maco,” the statement read. “His life was a testament to resilience, creativity, and boundless love. Through his music, passion, and unwavering spirit, he touched so many lives and left a lasting impact.”
Born Benedict Chiajulam Ihesiba Jr. in College Park, Georgia, Maco had been hospitalized since early December. At the time, his family reported he was in “critical but stable condition” due to unspecified health issues.
As fans and loved ones mourn his passing, the statement added, “While we grieve this immense loss, we also celebrate the extraordinary life he lived – one that will continue to inspire and uplift others. Maco’s influence, both as an artist and as a person, will remain forever etched in our hearts. Today, we celebrate a life that was extraordinary in every way.”
Maco gained prominence in 2014 with the viral success of “U Guessed It,” a track that became an anthem for his unique blend of aggressive energy and catchy hooks. His influence in hip-hop, particularly in the Atlanta scene, will not be forgotten.
