REO Speedwagon, the legendary classic rock band that has been a staple of American music since 1967, played their final concert on December 21, 2023, at the Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas. The band’s leader, Kevin Cronin, addressed the emotional crowd, marking the end of an era for the iconic group.

During the performance, Cronin expressed his gratitude to the band’s management, co-founders, and original members like Alan Gratzer and Neil Doughty. “We couldn’t have done it without any of those guys,” Cronin said. “I feel sadness that this is the final REO Speedwagon concert, but at the same time, I feel grateful to have been part of this incredible ride.”

Cronin also shared that while the band’s name would be retired, the spirit and music of REO Speedwagon would live on through him under the name “Kevin Cronin.” He reassured fans that the band’s iconic songs would continue to be part of the musical landscape. “The music, the spirit, the songs of REO Speedwagon will live on,” he declared.

This announcement came after the band revealed in September that they would no longer be touring due to “irreconcilable differences” between Cronin and bassist Bruce Hall. The band had planned a farewell tour but was forced to part ways due to health concerns and personal differences.

In a statement on social media, REO Speedwagon explained that Hall had been unable to return to the road as planned due to ongoing recovery issues, leading to the decision to retire the band’s name. Hall, who has been with the band for nearly 50 years, expressed his heartbreak over the split, saying in a statement on Facebook, “Never ever thought it would end like this, and I’m heartbroken.”

With the end of their touring career, the band expressed deep gratitude for their loyal fans, who have supported them through countless hits and tours over the decades. “We all deserved a farewell tour,” Hall said, acknowledging the band’s devoted fan base.

The iconic band will officially cease touring on January 1, 2025, closing the chapter on a remarkable career that has spanned more than half a century.
