In a groundbreaking event, rap and grime artists including Lady Leshurr will join forces with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in April for a unique concert aimed at demonstrating that symphonic music is accessible to everyone.
The performance, titled Legacy, will take place on April 12 at Birmingham Symphony Hall. It aims to bridge the gap between genres, with grime being celebrated as one of the “defining musical languages of Birmingham,” according to the orchestra’s chief executive, Emma Stenning. Stenning expressed hopes that the collaboration would offer “new perspectives” and help to broaden the appeal of symphonic music.
Joining Lady Leshurr on stage will be 14 other influential Birmingham-based artists, including Big Dog Yogo, Brixx, C4, Creezon, Jaykae, Mayhem, Nodb, Pressure0121, Roxxxan, Saf One, Sox, T Roadz, Trappy, and Trilla. Together, these artists will fuse their distinctive styles with the grandeur of the orchestra, led by the multi-award-winning conductor Phil Meadows.
The Legacy gig promises to be a historic fusion of genres, showcasing the vibrancy and diversity of Birmingham’s music scene while promoting symphonic music as a genre for all.
