While many have been enjoying a quiet holiday break, Zach Bryan has been hard at work on new music following the end of his highly successful 2024 Quittin’ Time tour. Just days before Christmas, the Oklahoma singer-songwriter surprised fans with the release of 24 (Live) and has since been teasing several unreleased tracks.
The latest snippet, which remains untitled, sees Bryan crooning about a chance encounter with the Devil in Tulsa. Yet, the song’s lyrics suggest that even Satan’s sinister ways pale in comparison to the heartache inflicted by the subject of his song. This follows another upbeat teaser he dropped the day before, where Bryan sings poignantly about an ex, reflecting on their shared past in a heartbreak-tinged melody.
Given Bryan’s recent high-profile breakup from podcast co-host Brianna LaPaglia in November, many fans have speculated that these unreleased tracks are inspired by the split. However, as a masterful storyteller, Bryan often writes from the perspective of imagined characters, leaving fans to wonder whether the songs are autobiographical or fictional.
In addition to teasing new music, Bryan is working on his follow-up album to the highly acclaimed The Great American Bar Scene, set for release in 2025. In an October interview with Bruce Springsteen for Rolling Stone, Bryan revealed he already has fourteen songs written but is taking a more deliberate approach with the new project.
Earlier this year, Bryan treated fans to two singles, “High Road” and “This World’s a Giant,” featuring New York artist Grumpy. As anticipation grows for his next full-length album, fans are hopeful that studio versions of the recently shared acoustic tracks will arrive soon.
