US country music star Laura Bryna is on a personal quest to uncover her Irish heritage, after a brief but meaningful visit to Ireland over Christmas. The Nashville-based artist, best known for her chart-topping holiday hit Wishlist, shared with the Irish Mail on Sunday her desire to learn more about her ancestral ties to the Emerald Isle.
“I’ve always known my family has ties to Ireland,” said Bryna. “My grandmother has always been extremely proud of her Irish heritage.” During her visit, she discovered that her great-grandfather, Jack Cummings, emigrated from Cork—a lead she plans to explore further.
Although the 44-year-old’s whirlwind trip to Ireland didn’t provide concrete details, Bryna has already enlisted the help of a genealogist to dig deeper into her family’s Irish roots, with hopes of uncovering more about her Cork connection.
