After five years of silence, Cordae has finally opened up about the reasons behind the split of the hip-hop collective YBN, which included him, Almighty Jay, and Nahmir. Cordae revealed the internal tensions and disagreements that ultimately led to the collective’s dismantling.
“It was a number of reasons, bro,” Cordae explained. “Groups, unfortunately… name one group that stayed together. Not even the Jackson 5 stayed together. Wu-Tang Clan, they all went off and did solo stuff.”
Cordae admitted that the group struggled to align on key issues, such as joint releases and behind-the-scenes decisions. Tensions escalated, especially when disagreements flared during a European trip. “We never recorded a song with all three of us,” Cordae shared. “The business side of it was kinda super fcked up. N***s got into a big argument in Europe, and people said things they couldn’t take back.”
Despite the fallout, Cordae made it clear that there is no bad blood between him and his former groupmates. “It’s still love, but there’s just some sht you can’t take back,” he said. “Namir, that’s still my homie. Jay, I still fck with bruh.”
Cordae has since thrived in his solo career, releasing his latest album The Crossroads and embarking on successful solo tours.
