Ice Spice’s New Year’s Eve performance at Brisbane’s Wildlands Festival has sparked outrage among fans after the rapper performed for less than six minutes, well below expectations.
The 25-year-old artist, whose real name is Isis Naija Gaston, was already running late, arriving on stage 25 minutes after her scheduled start time on Tuesday night. Despite being allotted a 30-minute performance slot, the rapper performed only two or three songs before her microphone was abruptly cut off, and a stagehand rushed to clear the stage.
Sporting her signature bright-orange wig and a vibrant pink jacket, Ice Spice gave a peace sign to the crowd before being booed as she exited the stage. Fans, many of whom had traveled long distances, were left frustrated by the short set. Some had paid up to $242 for tickets to the festival, hoping to see the artist in action.
Following the performance, dozens of disappointed revellers took to social media to voice their anger, with many expressing their dismay over the “entitled” behavior and lack of respect for the audience. The incident has sparked significant backlash, casting a shadow over what was supposed to be a highlight of the festival.
