SZA is gearing up to drop an updated version of her album Lana on January 6, 2025, promising fresh mixes and new songs for her eager fans. The reworked project will arrive just two weeks after the initial release of Lana on December 20, 2024, which was positioned as both a new album and an expansion of her 2022 hit SOS. However, the release faced minor delays, and shortly after, SZA revealed that she had re-evaluated the project with a “clear mind,” deciding to tweak the tracks.
On December 30, SZA took to social media to inform her followers of the upcoming updates. “Just got word all updated mixes and new songs will be added Jan 6th when the label comes back from holiday,” she wrote. “Sorry they can’t do it any sooner. Just wanted to keep y’all in the loop. Thank y’all for your patience.”
Fans can expect some of the unreleased tracks SZA had teased earlier, including “Take You Down,” “PSA,” and “Open Arms.” These songs didn’t make the initial cut of Lana, although “Take You Down” had been previewed by SZA on Instagram back in March.
The expansion of SOS into Lana was something SZA had discussed shortly after the original album’s 2022 release. In a 2023 interview with Rolling Stone, she revealed that Lana was inspired by Lil Uzi Vert’s deluxe edition of Eternal Atake, titled LUV vs. the World 2.
When the re-release of Lana was finally announced, SZA enlisted actor Ben Stiller to help spread the word, and he later appeared in the music video for the album’s lead single, “Drive.” Directed by Bradley J. Calder, the video further built anticipation for the project.
With the Lana re-release set to drop, SZA’s 2025 is already looking promising, with a major spring and summer tour alongside Kendrick Lamar on the Grand National stadium tour, kicking off in April and running through June.
