German melodic death metal band Burn Down Eden has unveiled a provocative new music video for their track “Suckbox,” featured on their recently released EP, Epiphany. The EP, which came out earlier this month via Seek & Strike, showcases the band’s signature intensity and thematic depth.
The song’s lyrics and video address serious and sensitive issues, particularly in the context of the allegations of sexual assault made against Rammstein’s Till Lindemann. The band explains, “The lyrics to ‘Suckbox’ were written during a time when these allegations surfaced. It’s a very serious topic that we wanted to shed light on, as the exploitation of women in the rock and metal world is an ongoing issue that occasionally comes to the surface. It’s not confined to music—it stretches across industries, with powerful individuals in politics, sports, and entertainment often exploiting their position.”
Taking a direct approach, Burn Down Eden portrays the story from the perspective of a rock star, depicting how fame and power are misused to manipulate and abuse women. The line “close your eyes, open your mouth and do the fucking deed” sharply encapsulates this exploitation, underscoring the band’s critical stance.
To complement the hard-hitting lyrics, the video features an imaginative narrative. The band took a creative route by embodying various controversial figures—both rock stars and politicians—who have faced accusations or convictions. The video begins by presenting these characters in a lavish, arrogant light, surrounded by women and reveling in their power. However, as the song builds to its intense solo section, a twist occurs: the women in the video begin to fight back, reclaiming control by taking over the instruments and continuing the song.
The band expressed their satisfaction with the final product, stating, “We are very happy with the outcome and think it’s a great statement.” With “Suckbox,” Burn Down Eden continues to use their platform to confront uncomfortable truths with bold artistic expression.
