The video, which Kelsie directed herself, was filmed in Kyiv, Ukraine, during her time working on a movie about Ukrainian resistance and resilience.
The concept of the video, created in collaboration with Ukrainian filmmaker Pavlo Khomiuk, sees Kelsie shedding layers of clothing to symbolize the emotional baggage she’s discarded from years of pain and abuse in a toxic relationship. The powerful imagery of her walking alone through the early morning streets while holding a stuffed toy reflects the personal journey of liberation and renewal.
“The song and video are a message to those trapped in abusive relationships,” Kelsie explained. “I want to give people a voice and the courage to walk away. Life is too short to live under negativity and control.” She hopes the video empowers viewers to prioritize their mental health and reclaim their sense of freedom.
The location of the video shoot is deeply symbolic. Filming in Kyiv reflects Ukraine’s own journey of breaking free from decades of oppression, with the nation fighting to sever the bonds of a toxic relationship. The parallels between personal and national liberation are central to the video’s powerful message.
Kelsie, a prolific artist with over 100 original songs to her name, continues to gain global recognition. Her music, featuring Grammy-winning producers, has earned millions of streams and views worldwide. “Walking Away” is now available on all major music platforms, and the video is streaming on YouTube.
