Following the abrupt end of Jane’s Addiction’s reunion tour three months ago, the band’s core members, minus frontman Perry Farrell, are back in the studio. Bassist Eric Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins shared footage of a recent recording session, where Avery was seen adding bass to Perkins’ drumming. Avery captioned the video, teasing new music for 2025 and hinting at guitarist Dave Navarro’s upcoming involvement.
This marks the latest attempt by the trio to create music without Farrell, a scenario that mirrors their efforts after the band’s original breakup in 1991. During that period, Avery and Navarro formed the band Deconstruction, which released a self-titled album in 1994. However, Perkins was not involved at the time due to concerns from Jane’s Addiction’s label about potential confusion with Farrell’s side project, Porno for Pyros.
Navarro has been vocal on social media about the Deconstruction project, which was recently re-released on streaming platforms. Reflecting on the album, he praised the musical synergy between himself and Avery, calling it “cinematic and soundscapey” and noting that it remains one of his favorite works due to the unique interplay between bass and guitar.
It remains unclear whether the current studio sessions are leading to a sequel to Deconstruction or a new endeavor altogether. The reunion tour, which ended in chaos after Farrell’s onstage altercation with Navarro, had seen the band working on new material, including a single that was released just before the tour’s sudden cancellation.
At the time, the band cited ongoing issues with Farrell’s mental health and behavior, which led to the decision to cancel the remainder of the tour for the safety and well-being of both the band and fans. Farrell has since taken time to seek medical care and focus on his health.
