Brenton Wood, the soulful voice behind classic hits like “The Oogum Boogum Song,” “Baby You Got It,” and “Gimme Little Sign,” has passed away at the age of 83. The news was confirmed by his manager, Manny Gallegos, who shared that Wood passed away peacefully at his home in Moreno Valley, California, surrounded by close friends.
Though the cause of death has not been officially disclosed, Gallegos revealed that Wood had been in declining health due to his advanced age. “It was just his old age. He went in his sleep peacefully,” Gallegos said, adding that Wood’s last message to his fans was, “I might not be here for long. Catch you on the Rebound.” This statement likely refers to both his farewell tour and the song of the same name.
Wood, who wrapped up his farewell tour in February 2024, had felt unwell shortly after the tour’s conclusion and was hospitalized in May. Beyond his music, he was also deeply committed to giving back to his community, especially through outreach programs focused on at-risk youth.
Brenton Wood’s legacy lives on through his unforgettable contributions to the world of music and his impactful work within his community.
