After a seven-year hiatus, Franz Ferdinand is making a highly anticipated return to the music scene. The iconic Scottish alternative rock band, known for their infectious hit “Take Me Out,” is set to release The Human Fear on January 10, 2025, signaling the start of a new chapter in their storied career.
Ahead of the album’s official drop, Franz Ferdinand teased fans with the release of their latest single, “Hooked,” on January 6. Described by frontman Alex Kapranos as “a nighttime prowl of a song,” “Hooked” explores the complexities of love and human vulnerability. “If we all have the human fear, then that’s alright when you’re hooked,” Kapranos explained. “I thought I knew what love was… but then I met you.”
The Human Fear marks the band’s first studio album since 2018’s Always Ascending. With this new release, Franz Ferdinand has rejoined forces with producer Mark Ralph, who previously worked on their 2013 album Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action. The album was recorded at AYR studios in Scotland and promises to bring fans back to the upbeat, life-affirming energy that first made them a global sensation.
The band has also been showcasing their new material live, performing tracks like “Audacious,” “Night or Day,” and “Bar Lonely” in recent shows. The Human Fear features 11 tracks that delve into the deep-set fears that shape the human experience, with Franz Ferdinand unashamedly aiming for a “pop-jugular” approach that’s become their signature sound. Fans can expect a bold, catchy return as the band embraces vulnerability and self-reflection through their music.
