Keith Urban’s new single, “Straight Line,” not only marks the beginning of his High album but also includes a nod to the Eagles’ iconic hit “Hotel California.” Urban explained how a lyric in his song—“finally leaving Hotel California”—was inspired by the classic track’s famous line, “You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave.”
Urban shared that he loves adding texture to his songs, and this particular line captures the ultimate release from the metaphorical “Hotel California.” He went on to describe how the creative process led to a celebratory moment in the song, where he added background vocals and sounds like clinking glasses, creating a sense of freedom and celebration.
As Urban prepares for the release of his new single, he’s also gearing up for his “High And Alive World Tour,” which will kick off on May 22 in Alabama. It will mark his first tour in three years, with openers Chase Matthew, Alana Springsteen, and Karley Scott Collins joining him on the road.
The country superstar also rang in 2025 with a record crowd at CBS’s New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash, performing hits like “Straight Line,” “Messed Up As Me,” and “Blue Ain’t Your Color” in front of an estimated 220,000 viewers.
