Finnish folk metal pioneers Ensiferum have released the official music video for “The Howl,” a powerful track from their latest album Winter Storm, out now via Metal Blade Records.

The band’s newest album, Winter Storm, came to life during the COVID-19 lockdown, when founding guitarist Markus Toivonen took it upon himself to push creative boundaries, ultimately composing every song on the album except for the anthem-like “Fatherland,” written by bassist Sami Hinkka. The album marks a significant evolution in the band’s sound, with the soaring vocals of singer/organist Pekka Montin providing a perfect complement to the album’s grand, fantasy-driven themes. Montin’s crystal-clear, melodic high notes shine, making him one of the most significant vocal discoveries of the decade.

Winter Storm is a concept album written by Hinkka, filled with heroic and dramatic moments. “The Howl” follows the band’s previous video for “Fatherland,” continuing the narrative of a remote tribe locked in battle against the oppressive Winter Storm Vigilantes.

The video for “The Howl” brings to life the album’s epic storytelling and showcases Ensiferum’s unrelenting commitment to blending folk melodies with intense metal riffs, solidifying their place at the forefront of the genre.
