Ed Sheeran made a surprise visit to Belfast, meeting with young musicians and educators as part of the launch of the Ed Sheeran Foundation, which aims to enhance music education in schools.
The foundation focuses on increasing access to music by providing instruments and performance opportunities for young people. During his trip, Sheeran was accompanied by Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody as they visited several music organizations in the city.
Among the places Sheeran toured were the Oh Yeah Music Centre and Hotbox Entertainment, which mentors up-and-coming rappers and musicians from its studio in west Belfast. James Ayo of Hotbox expressed that the foundation’s support will help fund recording projects and performances for about 50 local artists.
In addition to his time with young musicians, Sheeran visited Drake Music NI, a charity dedicated to empowering people of all abilities to create music, a cause previously championed by Lightbody.
