Sam Moore, the iconic half of the 1960s soul duo Sam & Dave, has passed away at the age of 89. Known for timeless hits like “Soul Man” and “Hold On, I’m Comin’,” Moore died Friday morning in Coral Gables, Florida, due to complications from surgery, according to his representative.

Moore’s career reached new heights in the 1960s alongside partner Dave Prater. The duo’s powerful harmonies and energetic performances made them one of the era’s most beloved acts.
