Sam Hunt is reflecting on the ever-changing landscape of country music and how he’s contributing to its evolution. In a recent interview with iHeartRadio, the Georgia-born singer-songwriter discussed how the genre is blending with other styles, broadening its reach.
“Everybody has a different definition of what country is, and I feel like the term and what it represents is evolving and changing now,” Hunt explained while riding through New York City in a cab. “I love country music and consider my music country, but I also like that it appeals to more people than just the traditional country music fan.”
Hunt, known for his genre-blending approach, rose to prominence with his 2014 debut album Montevallo, which featured hits like “Take Your Time,” “Leave The Night On,” “House Party,” and “Break Up In A Small Town.” Since then, he has continued to produce chart-topping anthems such as “Outskirts,” “Body Like A Back Road,” “23,” “Kinfolks,” and “Hard To Forget.”
For Hunt, the key is staying true to country roots while embracing the genre’s natural evolution.
