Legendary rap music icon MC Lyte will perform in Richmond on February 16 as part of her 1 of 1 Tour, bringing not only her iconic music but also a commitment to uplifting local talent. The event, held at Ember Music Hall, promises to be an unforgettable evening featuring a dynamic lineup of artists.
“I’m the owner of MSQ, and we run the hip-hop and R&B division at Ember Music Hall,” said Keck, the event organizer. “We’re bringing out the legend herself—MC Lyte.” The night will also feature DJ Lonnie B on the decks, with Mike Street hosting, and local performers like Cakess and Alexander Mack opening the show.
For Mack, the opportunity to perform before a rap icon like MC Lyte is a dream come true. “To open for an artist who’s pioneered the biggest genre in the world is an honor,” he said. “She embodies everything that hip-hop stands for—positivity, education, and self-confidence—which is exactly what my music represents. She’s paved the way for artists like me, and I’m truly honored.”
MC Lyte, known for her empowering messages, will also use this opportunity to spotlight local artists as part of what she calls her “lift-up cypher.” The rapper explained that the cypher is a space where individuals are encouraged to speak life into their music, using their 16 bars to inspire and motivate. “We’re asking people to come speak life into their 16 bars, to uplift, to motivate,” she shared.
The show is set to be a powerful evening, not just for MC Lyte’s fans, but for Richmond’s rising hip-hop community as well.
