Australian country music icon Kasey Chambers has dropped a new single and video, The Divorce Song, featuring her ex-husband and longtime collaborator, Shane Nicholson. The track is part of her 13th studio album, Backbone, which debuted at No. 1 on both the ARIA Australian Albums and Country Albums charts, and No. 3 on the ARIA Albums chart.
The Divorce Song marks a reunion for Chambers and Nicholson, whose 2008 collaboration Rattlin’ Bones became a chart-topping success. The song, which reflects their personal and musical journey, holds a special place for both artists.
“Writing The Divorce Song with Shane and recording it together as a duet is one of my favourite musical moments of my career and, even more so, one of my proudest family moments,” Chambers shared. “When our marriage ended, I never thought we’d write another song together, but I guess if you work hard enough on making a divorce work, anything can happen.”
Nicholson echoed the sentiment, saying, “For a long time, writing and recording together again didn’t seem likely. But The Divorce Song feels like the perfect way to revisit what we always did best. It only took an hour to put down on paper, but in reality, it took 10 years to write this song because it couldn’t be written until it was fully lived. I’m proud of that, and proud of us.”
With The Divorce Song, Chambers and Nicholson have turned a chapter of their personal history into a heartfelt and reflective piece of music, showing the power of collaboration—even after life’s most significant changes.
