Teddy Osei, the visionary leader and founder of the groundbreaking Afro-rock band Osibisa, has passed away at the age of 88. He died at Apple Tree Care Home in London, where he had been residing for the past five years due to illness.
In a statement from Osibisa’s management, they expressed their deep sorrow over Osei’s passing, describing him as a “talented and passionate man, musician, and mentor to many.” Osei was renowned for his skill as a saxophonist, drummer, and vocalist, finding great success and fulfillment with Osibisa, which became a pioneer in Afro-rock music. “He was an important voice in music and culture, and will be missed, but not forgotten,” the statement read.
