Shreveport’s own Country Music Hall of Famer Kix Brooks is coming home to perform for a good cause with Kix Brooks & Friends: A Night Benefiting ‘Hope on the Inside’. The concert, which will take place at the Louisiana Grandstand, marks Brooks’ return to the area after several years and his debut performance at the iconic venue.
Best known for his work with the legendary country duo Brooks & Dunn, Brooks is a Shreveport native with deep ties to the community. A Louisiana Tech graduate, he attended Riverside Elementary and Youree Drive Middle School before finishing his education at Sewanee Military Academy in Tennessee.
The star-studded event will feature a “songwriters round,” a popular format in Nashville where artists share stories behind their songs before performing them. Alongside Brooks, the evening will include fellow Hall of Fame songwriters David Lee Murphy and Rafe Van Hoy, along with Louisiana-born talent such as Dan Smalley, Kylie Frey, Briana Calhoun, Chancie Neal, and Carter Windham.
“I’ve always dreamed of making a living as a songwriter,” Brooks said. “I grew up idolizing songwriters like Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, and Hank Williams, so this night is especially meaningful.”
Brooks is also a dedicated supporter of Hope on the Inside, a non-profit organization he helped establish. The charity, which focuses on providing support for individuals transitioning out of prison, is led by Briana Calhoun, a singer-songwriter and teacher in Ruston who has her own personal story of overcoming incarceration.
The concert will take place at 9:30 p.m. on Friday, January 31, at the Louisiana Grandstand, 802 Margaret Place in Shreveport. The 6:30 p.m. show is already sold out, but tickets for the late performance are still available for purchase.
