After captivating audiences across the Cree Nation, the Eeyou-Innu Rock Band is set to take their dynamic performance to Toronto for a special Indigenous music showcase. On January 31, they will headline the “Music is Medicine” event at the Imperial Pub, sharing the stage with special guests David Meawasige and Kevin Schofield (The Tennessee Cree).
This marks the band’s first performance in Canada’s largest city, but their growing confidence has them ready to take on any stage. The Mistissini-based group features four lead singers who blend rock, gospel, and Indigenous music in both Cree and Innu languages, creating a unique and powerful presence with every show.
The band’s formation traces back to the Big Rock Music Festival last winter in Mistissini, where some of the most prominent names in Cree and Innu music gathered. During the event, multi-instrumentalist Paul Napash, who was performing with Cree Rising, began a teaching residency at the Mikw Chiyâm school arts program, marking the early days of what would become the Eeyou-Innu Rock Band.
