Rising rap music star Ghais Guevara is making waves with his latest release, “Bystander Effect,” featuring his Fat Possum label mate, ELUCID. The track is part of Guevara’s debut LP Goyard Ibn Said, produced by DJ Haram.
Guevara shared his excitement about the collaboration, praising DJ Haram’s beat and the creative space it allowed for both artists: “DJ Haram showed me true musicianship with this beat. Built a world where ELUCID and I could really lay out our imagery. Wrote this shit in like two hours, so imagine how good it felt to get the green light from my inspirations!”
Known for performing at diverse venues ranging from massive stages to punk rock dive bars and even Marxist book stores, Guevara brings a unique energy to the rap scene. Hailing from North Philly, he’s shaped by both the struggles of urban life and radical Black leftist thought. His debut album Goyard Ibn Said showcases his ability to explore the complex juxtapositions of his upbringing and influences, which range from cinematic works like Ingmar Bergman’s Persona to the writings of Frantz Fanon and Oliver Sacks.
