Legendary British heavy metal band Saxon has released a dramatic new music video for their single “1066,” celebrating their upcoming European Hell, Fire And Steel tour. The track is featured on their 24th studio album, Hell, Fire And Damnation, which has received widespread critical acclaim.
The song, steeped in British history, reflects on the dramatic invasion by William the Conqueror, marking the end of the Saxon era. Lead vocalist Biff Byford shared his inspiration behind the track, noting that it’s a continuation of a theme he explored in a previous collaboration with Amon Amarth. “I did a song called ‘Saxons and Vikings,’ which focused on the rise of the Saxons, and now ‘1066’ addresses the fall of the Saxons as William the Conqueror decisively ends their reign,” Byford explained.
Saxon will perform “1066” live during their Hell, Fire And Steel tour, which kicks off next month. The video for the single features epic reenactments of Saxon and Norman fighters, brought to life by Stronghold Reenactment, and is directed, produced, and edited by Paul M Green.
Fans can watch the compelling new video for “1066” as Saxon prepares to bring their powerful live performance to stages across Europe.
