Florida indie rockers flipturn have released their highly anticipated sophomore album, Burnout Days, offering a lively, summery antidote to the winter blues. Known for their electrifying live performances and 2018’s hit “August,” flipturn has evolved since its garage band origins in 2015, with members Dillon Basse, Tristan Duncan, Madeline Jarman, Mitch Fountain, and Devon VonBalson.

Following the success of their 2022 debut Shadowglow, flipturn spent years touring major festivals like Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza. But it was their time on the road—and the exhaustion that came with it—that inspired Burnout Days, an album exploring themes of codependency, self-esteem, and friendship.

The album opens with “Juno,” which features a captivating synth riff from Fountain, setting the stage for an experimental sound. The accompanying music video takes fans on a chaotic journey through the band’s touring life, from broken-down vans to messy dressing rooms, all while delivering the anthem-like lyrics, “Tripping through the timeline / Making the doves cry / Yeah, you say you’re doing just fine / Enjoying the joyride.”

The album’s standout track, “Rodeo Clown,” features Basse’s smooth vocals over dreamy synths and punchy drums, capturing the bliss of performing. Meanwhile, “Inner Wave” offers a summer-fueled, psychedelic experience with catchy guitar riffs and reflective lyrics on relationships.

Burnout Days solidifies flipturn as a band unafraid to explore new sounds while staying true to their roots, making it the perfect soundtrack for escaping the everyday grind.
