Rising star Julia Golden was honored with the Michael Comer Emerging New Artist Award at the Carolina Country Music Awards, marking a major milestone in her musical journey. The Carthage native performed live at the event, reflecting on the honor and her path in country music.
At just 18, Golden has been honing her craft for years, picking up the guitar at age 13 and writing songs from a young age. Her passion for music grew throughout her time at Union Pines High School, where she began seriously pursuing songwriting.
“It was such an honor and a blessing,” Golden shared, expressing her surprise at receiving the award. “There are so many great artists in the history of the Carolinas. I’m so incredibly grateful.”
Golden draws inspiration from a mix of country and rock legends, with Chris Stapleton, Dolly Parton, Stevie Nicks, and Billy Joel among her major influences. Though she excels in multiple aspects of music, she identifies as a singer first, enjoying the connection with her audience.
“I’m really good at talking to people and making them feel like they’re part of the show,” Golden said.
In 2024, she performed over 240 shows, but she plans a lighter schedule this year, with around 150 performances. Despite the packed schedule, she continues to prioritize her creative independence, recording in Nashville while remaining unsigned by a record label.
Golden is also excited about her upcoming release, “Smoking Gun,” set to drop later this month. “It’s a super-fun song,” she said, eager to share it with fans.
Her unique approach to songwriting stems from a deep appreciation for all forms of art. “I kind of see art everywhere. It comes from everywhere. It’s what makes each song unique,” she explained.
