Westside Gunn is back with a vengeance. The Buffalo rap music star and Griselda label head just released “Outlander,” the lead single from his highly anticipated project 12, set to drop on Valentine’s Day.
Produced by Myles, the teenage son of Griselda affiliate Rick Hyde, and directed by Daily Gems, the music video for “Outlander” is a flashy, boastful display of Gunn’s signature style. Dressed in an eye-catching Louis Vuitton leather jacket, Gunn spits hard-hitting bars like, “Ayo, the illest since Master P / Rich off drug dealin’, actually / These n—as tryna act like the illest, sh—t, blasphemy,” while cruising through New York City.
He also teases a track with Estee Nack, a Dominican rapper from Lynn, Massachusetts, who drops a memorable line: “The dope was gray and it smelled like vinegar.”
Westside Gunn has made it clear he’s focusing on more spontaneous releases, dropping projects without sticking to a strict schedule. After his five-track EP 11 on Halloween and Still Praying hosted by DJ Drama in November, Gunn is now gearing up for Flygod Is an Awesome God III (Trilogy) and his long-awaited collaboration tape Michelle Records with Stove God Cooks.
As Gunn told Billboard last November, “Griselda n—as fathers in the first place… it’s back to Griselda time starting now.” Fans can expect more music on their terms—on his terms.
