Ani DiFranco and Pearl Jam’s Stone Gossard are back together for their latest musical collaboration, The Message, three years after their 2022 track “Disorders.” The new single brings the same powerhouse lineup, with DiFranco on vocals, Gossard on guitar, and a supporting cast of musicians that includes keyboardist Josh Evans, saxophonist Skerik, and percussionist Stanton Moore.
The Message offers a groovy, laid-back vibe with DiFranco’s poignant lyrics at the forefront. Repeating the line “I feel your pain,” she draws listeners into the song’s emotional depths. Gossard expressed his excitement about the project, calling it “fun and amazing” to work with DiFranco and the talented band. “Ani’s vocals are transcendent,” he added.
DiFranco shared that the song’s creative journey began with Gossard’s demo and evolved through their collaborative process. “Super fun to team up with some badasses and pull a song out of the air,” she said.
While DiFranco continues to tour in support of her album Unprecedented Sh!t, Pearl Jam is preparing for their upcoming North American tour, set to kick off on April 24. DiFranco’s documentary, 1-800-ON-HER-OWN, is also slated for a spring theater release after its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival.
