Lola Young’s hit song “Messy” has secured its fourth consecutive week at No. 1 on the U.K. Singles Chart, marking a significant achievement in her career. The track first took the top spot in January, ousting Gracie Abrams’ “That’s So True,” which had dominated the chart for eight weeks.
By holding the No. 1 position for four weeks, Young has now become the longest-running British female artist at the top since Adele’s “Easy on Me” in 2021. This milestone surpasses previous three-week No. 1s by Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” and Kenya Grace’s “Strangers.”
The song’s success also continues globally, as “Messy” holds the No. 19 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, despite a slight drop of five positions from last week. Featured on her sophomore album This Wasn’t Meant for You Anyway, released in May 2024, the song has now surpassed 300 million streams on Spotify.
In March, Young will vie for a BRIT Award in the pop act category, competing against major artists such as Charli XCX, Dua Lipa, Jade Thirlwall, and Myles Smith. She also collaborated with Tyler, the Creator as a guest vocalist on his track “Like Him” from Chromakopia.
