Shakira Postpones Lima Concert After Hospitalization for Abdominal Issue

Shakira has been forced to postpone her concert in Lima, Peru, after an unexpected health scare. The Colombian pop star was hospitalized on Sunday, February 16, due to an “abdominal issue” that led her to the emergency room, leaving her unable to perform that evening.

“I am sorry to inform you all that last night I had to go to the ER for an abdominal issue and am currently hospitalized,” Shakira shared in a statement posted on her social media, written in both English and Spanish. “The doctors have communicated that I am not in good enough condition to perform this evening.”

The singer expressed her disappointment, saying she had been eagerly anticipating her performance for her Peruvian fans. “I am very sad to not be able to take the stage today,” she wrote. “I’ve been looking forward to reuniting with my incredible fans here in Peru.”

Shakira was scheduled to perform the first of two nights at Lima’s Estadio Nacional on Sunday. As of now, her second show in the city, scheduled for Monday, is still set to take place, with the singer expressing hope that she will be well enough to perform. “I hope to be released and well tomorrow so I’m able to perform,” she added.

Shakira is currently on her world tour in support of Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, her first album in seven years. The tour, which began with her Latin American dates, will continue in the U.S. starting May 13 in Charlotte, North Carolina, and conclude on June 30 in San Francisco.

Earlier this year, Shakira postponed the U.S. leg of the tour to 2025 due to overwhelming demand. She previously revealed that the concerts would be the longest of her career, with some performances exceeding two hours.
