Rick Buckler, the iconic drummer for the British rock band The Jam, has passed away at the age of 69. His death was confirmed by former bandmate and lead singer Paul Weller, who shared a heartfelt tribute on social media Tuesday. Weller expressed his shock and sadness, reminiscing about their early days rehearsing in his bedroom and the band’s journey from pub gigs to international success. “What a journey! We went far beyond our dreams and what we made stands the test of time,” Weller wrote.
Bassist Bruce Foxton also paid tribute, calling Buckler “a good guy and a great drummer” whose innovative rhythms were instrumental in shaping the band’s distinctive sound. Foxton added, “I’m glad we had the chance to work together as much as we did.”
Buckler’s family confirmed his death in a statement, revealing that he passed away peacefully in Woking after a short illness, with his loved ones by his side.
