Tems has made history as the first African female artist to surpass one billion streams on Spotify with her contribution to Future’s hit song “WAIT FOR U,” featuring Drake. The track, which samples Tems’ 2020 hit “Higher” from her EP For Broken Ears, was part of Future’s 2022 album I NEVER LIKED YOU and topped the Billboard 200.
“WAIT FOR U” also reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking Tems’ first chart-topping single, and secured multiple accolades, including a Grammy win for Best Melodic Rap Performance in 2023. Additionally, her single “Love Me JeJe” earned her a second Grammy this year for Best African Music Performance.
Tems, whose full name is Temilade Openiyi, continues to make strides this year, having recently joined the San Diego Football Club’s ownership group and preparing to headline Billboard Presents THE STAGE at SXSW London in June.
