Beyoncé, Blue Ivy, and Kendrick Lamar Shine at 56th NAACP Image Awards

Beyoncé and her daughter Blue Ivy were among the big winners at the 56th annual NAACP Image Awards, with Beyoncé taking home two prestigious trophies. She was honored as Outstanding Female Artist and for her album Cowboy Carter in the Outstanding Album category. Blue Ivy won Outstanding Character Voiceover Performance for her role as young Kiara in Mufasa: The Lion King, marking her feature film debut.

Kendrick Lamar also took home an award, winning Outstanding Song – Hip-Hop/Rap for his track “Not Like Us.” Other notable winners included Doechii, named Outstanding New Artist, and Chris Brown, who secured Outstanding Male Artist.

The awards, which spanned two nights, also saw Netflix’s The Six Triple Eight garner multiple accolades, including Outstanding Ensemble Cast in a Motion Picture.

The winners were announced during a virtual, non-televised ceremony streamed on the NAACP Image Awards YouTube channel. The televised ceremony will air on February 22 on BET and CBS, with Creative Honors being awarded on February 21.

Blue Ivy’s role in Mufasa, a prequel to The Lion King directed by Barry Jenkins, has been praised for its representation. In a behind-the-scenes clip, she shared her excitement about inspiring young girls who look like her. The film features Beyoncé as Nala and Donald Glover as Simba, with Blue Ivy voicing Kiara.

In addition to her award, Blue Ivy also joined Beyoncé for a memorable performance during the NFL halftime show on Christmas Day, where the pair celebrated with a rendition of “Texas Hold ‘Em,” marking a special moment in Texas.
