Luke Bell’s song “The Bullfighter,” originally released on his 2016 self-titled album, has evolved into a country music standard, a testament to its enduring impact. After Bell’s tragic passing in 2022, the song has gained renewed attention and is now being covered by multiple artists, following in the footsteps of other iconic tracks like Jason Isbell’s “Cover Me Up” and Tyler Childers’ “Jersey Giant.”
The song’s rise to prominence began shortly after Bell’s death. At the 2022 Americana Music Awards, Bell’s close friend and mentor, JP Harris, honored him by performing “The Bullfighter” on the stage of the Ryman Auditorium. Later that year, during a tribute to Bell in Nashville, his sister and fellow musician Jane Bell chose to sing the same song in his memory.
As we move into 2025, “The Bullfighter” continues to inspire artists, many of whom have now made it their own, further solidifying Luke Bell’s legacy in the world of country music.
