Ador, the agency representing K-pop girl group NewJeans, has filed a legal complaint to stop the group from engaging in any music activities, according to the group on Thursday. This marks a new chapter in the ongoing conflict between the agency and the artists.
The group, which rebranded as NJZ in early February, announced on social media that Ador submitted the complaint on February 11. The complaint asks the court to ban the group from “all music activities, including songwriting, performances, and related promotional efforts.”
This legal action builds on Ador’s earlier request to halt NJZ’s commercial activities while keeping the agency as their official representative.
NJZ responded by claiming that Ador is trying to prevent them from participating in any entertainment activities. “This is an attempt to restrict our professional freedom,” the group stated, emphasizing that “NJZ’s core is music activities, and limiting this is like denying our very existence.”
In response, Ador argued that the legal move was “inevitable” because NJZ continued with music activities, including plans for international performances, despite the ongoing legal dispute over the agency’s role.
“We are not trying to restrict their activities, but rather to remind them to follow the terms of the contract signed with Ador,” the agency explained.
The first court hearing on the case is scheduled for Friday morning.
