Doechii is set to make her debut at Glastonbury in 2025. The ‘Denial Is A River’ songwriter will perform at Worthy Farm, sharing the stage with headliners The 1975, Neil Young, and Olivia Rodrigo.
Fans are buzzing with excitement ahead of the iconic festival, which will take place in June. Many have expressed their anticipation on social media, with one fan saying: “Doechii at Glasto! That’s insane,” while another predicted, “Doechii’s set is about to be iconic.”
In anticipation of the event, many have been curious about the meaning behind Doechii’s rap name, and its origins are both personal and empowering. Born Jaylah Hickmon, Doechii came up with her stage name while still in school. She created it as a way to overcome the bullying she faced at the time, and it helped her rise above those challenges.
In an interview with Dazed, Doechii shared her struggles: “I was bullied so bad that I was becoming somebody else for someone else’s comfort. It messed with my head, because I always knew I was ‘that girl.’ I always knew I was dope. My taste was very high when I was young. I wasn’t into the same things others were. Not that they weren’t into cool things, but my stuff was just cooler.”
She went on to explain a turning point in her life: “I was at a point where I thought about taking my own life because the bullying was so intense. Then I had a realization: If I do that, they’ll get to live and I’ll be the one dead. Look at my taste! Nobody wants that. I don’t want that. That’s not the life I want to live.” This moment of clarity, she said, led to the birth of her rap persona, Doechii.
Today, it’s clear that no one is mocking Doechii, especially considering her incredible achievements. In addition to her Glastonbury performance, her mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal won a Grammy, making her the third-ever female artist to take home the award for Best Rap Album.
She has also been named Billboard’s 2025 Woman of the Year and received platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). With all these accolades, fans can’t wait to see her perform at Glastonbury!
