Sony Music Entertainment’s RCA Records Greater China has entered into a partnership with Iris Chengdu, an independent music collective and label founded by Chengdu-based producer Andre Grant, also known as Harakiri.
The collaboration will release five albums over the next 12 months, featuring artists from Iris Chengdu, including Vinida Weng, Haysen Cheng, Miles, Swag Kelly, and Harakiri himself. Weng, a pioneering female rapper in Chinese hip-hop, has already launched her album globally and performed in her hometown of Fuzhou.
Harakiri is a well-known figure in Chinese hip-hop, having contributed to China’s first Afrobeat track and produced hits for American rapper Jay Park and the Chinese group Higher Brothers.
This partnership aims to combine RCA China’s global distribution network with Iris Chengdu’s innovative approach to the growing Chinese hip-hop scene. Chengdu is widely recognized as the center of China’s evolving hip-hop culture, nurturing the next generation of rap talent in the country.
“Chinese hip-hop is not just a fast-growing genre; it’s a cultural movement with the potential to reshape the global music industry,” said Doyen Chung, managing director of RCA Records Greater China. “Through this partnership, we aim to bring fresh creative expressions to global audiences, expanding the reach of Chinese hip-hop music.”
Andrew Chan, CEO of Sony Music Entertainment Greater China, emphasized, “We aim to introduce a new wave of music that resonates locally and globally, bringing Chinese talent to the world stage.”
Harakiri called the partnership “an exciting milestone” that will help the label share its stories with global audiences while remaining true to its roots. “Together, we are bridging cultures, connecting audiences, and pushing music beyond borders,” he stated.
