Sophia Liu, a 16-year-old Canadian pianist, has joined the roster of Intermusica New York. Under the agency’s management, she will receive worldwide representation from Martin Wittenberg and Jessica Barra.
Liu, originally from Shanghai, grew up in Japan before moving to Montreal to study with Dang Thai Son. Over the years, she has earned several prestigious awards, including First Prize in Category A at the 18th Ettlingen International Piano Competition, First Prize at the Thomas & Evon Cooper International Competition, and multiple honors at the inaugural Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli International Piano Competition, such as Second Prize, Youngest Semifinalist Prize, and the Audience Prize.
In 2023, Liu made her solo debut with the Cleveland Orchestra, conducted by David Robertson. In early 2025, she performed Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice and conductor Lionel Bringuier.
Looking ahead, Liu is set to debut in August 2025 with the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 22. She will also return to Japan in October 2025 to perform with the NHK Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Eva Ollikainen.
In 2024, Liu released her debut album, featuring live recordings from her performances at the Michelangeli Competition.
Intermusica New York has expressed its commitment to nurturing Liu’s career. Despite her young age, the agency is dedicated to providing the necessary guidance and resources to ensure her growth and long-term success in the music industry.
