The fourth edition of the Spring Festival, a seven-day celebration of classical music, begins Monday at Antwerp’s historic Handelsbeurs. The festival will showcase international orchestras and soloists, offering a vibrant mix of performances.
For the first time, the festival will feature an “ensemble in residence”—the Susato Trio. The Flemish trio, made up of violinist Sarah Bayens, cellist Mikko Pablo, and pianist Markiyan Popil, will perform several times throughout the week. Their performances will include Schubert’s works, alongside Shakespeare’s sonnets narrated by Stefaan Degand. They will also headline the closing concert with ‘Beethoven Spirituoso,’ featuring Beethoven’s Triple Concerto and Seventh Symphony.
The festival kicks off on Monday with ‘Echoes of Italy,’ a performance blending Mozart with Italian influences. The Casco Phil orchestra, led by Benjamin Haemhouts, will be joined by violinist Abigél Králik.
Over the next few days, the festival will also feature performances by Germany’s Luca Sestak Trio, the Orchestre National de Lille (France), Welsh soprano Camilla Roberts, Polish pianist Tymoteusz Bies, and fado singer Maria Emilia.
