NAV returns with his first album in three years, embracing the dreamy, nighttime atmosphere reflected on the cover.
During the late 2010s and early 2020s, NAV was known for his consistency, releasing four albums, a mixtape, and a deluxe album in just five years. After a period of silence, “OMW2 REXDALE” marks his comeback. It’s clear that during his time away, NAV has refined his sound. While he remains the same rapper that both fans love and criticize, there is a noticeable shift in his style, showing greater precision. The album highlights NAV’s strengths, offering a more polished version of his signature vibe.
The lead single, “Real Me,” sets the tone for the entire project. NAV and his team of producers craft a moody, late-night atmosphere, and the opening track, “BACK 2 BUSINESS,” demonstrates the effectiveness of this approach. One of the album’s standout moments is “U.N.I.,” a song that features a catchy, female-led chorus paired with NAV’s smooth harmonizing, marking it as one of his best tracks. “GET 2 U” also stands out, channeling the darker, smoother sound of Toronto’s music scene, which was popularized by Drake.
Though guest features are kept minimal, Don Toliver shines on “YOU,” and Playboi Carti delivers a memorable verse on “UNLIMITED.” The track is further elevated by an uncredited outro from The Weeknd.
