Jennie, a member of Blackpink, made history on Saturday by becoming the first K-pop solo artist to receive an award at the Billboard Women in Music Awards.
The event, held at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles, saw Jennie honored with the prestigious Global Force Award. She expressed her gratitude, saying, “It is such an honor and I feel proud to receive the Global Force Award here, among so many beautiful women who inspire others. I gain inspiration from women around the world, and I hope to continue being someone who can positively influence many people.”
The Billboard Women in Music Awards celebrate exceptional female artists, creators, producers, and executives who have made significant contributions to the music industry over the year. Jennie was previously recognized by Billboard as an influential figure who has captured global attention.
Earlier this year, Jennie released her debut solo album, Ruby, which achieved impressive success. The album spent two consecutive weeks on the Billboard 200 chart, while its lead single, “Like JENNIE,” reached the top 10 on both the Global Excl. U.S. and Global 200 charts for two straight weeks.
Additionally, Ruby peaked at No. 3 on the Official Albums Chart Top 100 in the UK for the week of March 14, making Jennie the highest-charting K-pop female soloist in Britain.
At the same event, the K-pop girl group aespa took home the Group of the Year award and performed their hit “Whiplash” in English.
