A group of prominent K-pop stars will release a tribute song to honor the late Moonbin, marking the second anniversary of his passing. The song, set to be released on April 19, 2025, aims to celebrate Moonbin’s life and provide comfort to those who were closest to him.
Moonbin, known for his work with ASTRO, as well as his acting, modeling, and hosting roles, remains a beloved figure in the K-pop world. He first gained attention as a child actor in the 2009 series Boys Over Flowers. His career flourished with ASTRO, which debuted in February 2016. Beyond music, Moonbin showcased his versatility through acting in the drama At Eighteen and hosting Show Champion from 2020 to 2022. His modeling career also flourished, with work for brands like Nerdy Cafe.
Moonbin tragically passed away in 2023, leaving behind a legacy of talent and promise. As the K-pop community reflects on his life, his friends and colleagues have come together to create this special tribute.
The song will feature participation from all four remaining members of ASTRO—Cha Eunwoo, MJ, JinJin, and Sanha—as well as Moonbin’s sister, Moon Sua, a member of the girl group Billlie. Sua, who had taken a hiatus from the public eye following her brother’s passing, will contribute to the tribute. In addition to ASTRO, many other stars will join in, including SEVENTEEN’s Seungkwan, DK, Hoshi, Wonwoo, and Mingyu, along with members of VIVIZ, Monsta X’s I.M, Kihyun, and Minhyuk, SF9’s Chani, Stray Kids’ Bang Chan, and singer-songwriter Ungjae (Hello Gloom), among others.
Cha Eunwoo, a close friend of Moonbin, shared more details during a YouTube livestream, revealing that the song was written by the ASTRO members. He explained, “This is a project we’ve been preparing for a long time. It’s something I’ve wanted to do since last year. We’ve worked hard on it, and the lyrics were written by our members. It feels like a song that can bring comfort.” He encouraged fans to listen to the song when it’s released, highlighting the deep effort put into it.
Fantagio, the agency behind ASTRO, confirmed the project with a statement, saying, “Moonbin’s friends will be coming together to release a new song in April. This song will be structured as a letter from his friends to Moonbin, and more details will be shared soon.”
Moonbin’s death on April 19, 2023, shocked the industry. The 25-year-old was found dead at his apartment in Gangnam, sparking concerns about the pressures faced by artists. His passing was commemorated at the inaugural We Bridge Music Festival & Expo in Las Vegas, where VIVIZ and Monsta X performed a tribute during a moment of silence in his honor.
In the wake of Moonbin’s passing, colleagues and industry figures have described him as a vibrant, kind-hearted artist whose smile and positive spirit left an indelible mark on everyone he worked with.
