Pop Megastar Reacts To Critic Who Claimed His Music Makes Them Feel ‘Hollow’

Ed Sheeran has responded to a critic who compared his music to heroin in a recent video.

The critic, known as The Swiftologist on TikTok, sharply criticized Sheeran’s new single, “Azizam.” In the video, he suggested that the song would be “terrorizing the people of grocery stores worldwide,” and called it “addictive in a way that’s not supposed to be good for the human brain.” He went on to say, “The songs are good in the way that, I don’t know, heroin is good for people.”

Released on April 4, “Azizam” is a tribute to Sheeran’s wife, with the title meaning “my dear” in Persian, according to ZeeNews. It serves as the lead single for Sheeran’s upcoming album, “Play,” though the release date for the album has yet to be announced.

The Swiftologist also claimed that Sheeran’s career has not evolved since 2016, comparing “Azizam” to past hits like “Shape of You,” “Shivers,” and “Bad Habits.” He criticized the new song’s lyrics as shallow, claiming it doesn’t measure up to Sheeran’s earlier work, such as his debut single “The A Team” from 2011. He described Sheeran’s songwriting as “soulless” and accused him of using the same formula for all his music.

“There is a little mouse in his brain operating an iPad, and that is where the songs come from,” said The Swiftologist. He added, “Nothing Ed Sheeran does ever means anything. I feel so hollow and like a shell of a person when I listen to Ed Sheeran.”

In response, Sheeran commented “LOL” on the video. The Swiftologist later replied, “King I’m so sorry. But we need to come up with something else.”

Along with “Azizam,” Sheeran also debuted his song “Old Phone” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last month. He performed the song in Ipswich during the opening of his pop-up pub, which will serve as the backdrop for the music video.
