On April 9, Jillian Lauren, wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, was shot by police and later arrested for attempted murder. Authorities reported that Lauren allegedly pointed a handgun at officers who were chasing a hit-and-run suspect near her Los Angeles home. This incident was covered by ABC News.
Despite the situation, Weezer continued with their scheduled performance at the 2025 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. The festival, held at Empire Polo Fields in Indio, CA, took place from April 11-13 and April 18-20. Weezer performed on the Mojave stage on April 12, the second day of the event. According to Setlist.fm, their set featured a mix of well-known hits like “Island in the Sun,” “Buddy Holly,” and “Hash Pipe,” along with lesser-known tracks. The band focused heavily on songs from their first five albums, spanning from 1994’s Weezer (The Blue Album) to 2005’s Make Believe.
In addition to their own hits, Weezer included a cover of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman,” with a memorable guitar solo from frontman Rivers Cuomo.
The band did not address the police incident involving Lauren during the show. According to the Los Angeles Times, Shriner was seen raising his fist to the crowd, earning loud cheers from the thousands of festivalgoers.
Speaking to Variety between performances of “Pork and Beans” and “Undone – The Sweater Song,” Cuomo shared, “We were making the Weezer movie back in Los Angeles, but when Coachella called and asked if we could make a surprise appearance, we said ‘Heck yeah.’ It’s so great to be here with all you guys and let out all these emotions.”
