The creators behind Synthony have unveiled a new event described as a “collision of cultures.”
The Mānuka Phuel-sponsored Full Metal Orchestra will combine the “raw power” of rock and metal with the “sheer might” of a 29-piece classical orchestra. The event is set to debut at Auckland’s Spark Arena on July 26.
Organizers Duco Touring and Liberty Stage promised a unique symphonic experience, saying, “Think Metallica meets Mahler, AC/DC a deux, and Sabbath with strings.”
The show will be conducted by Sarah-Grace Williams and produced by Jol Mulholland. It aims to elevate heavy music by blending massive metal anthems from iconic bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, and AC/DC, with orchestral arrangements, powerful guitars, vocals, and stunning visuals.
David Higgins, founder of Duco Touring, described the event as another “collision of cultures” following the success of Synthony shows in New Zealand and worldwide. “Rock and metal felt like the logical next step; what genres could be more of a symphonic clash?” he said.
To ensure the event’s success, Duco Touring has partnered with Liberty Stage, a leader in the New Zealand rock scene, to bring the Mānuka Phuel Full Metal Orchestra to life.
The Auckland Council’s city centre targeted rate will support the event, and Tātaki Auckland Unlimited director Annie Dundas expressed excitement about its potential impact. “After the success of Synthony, which attracted visitors from across New Zealand, we anticipate this event will bring more than 3,000 additional visitor nights to the region,” she said. “As a UNESCO City of Music, Auckland is proud to host events that celebrate musical diversity and innovation.”
Liberty Stage director Simone Williams added, “Liberty Stage is excited to partner with Duco Touring for the world premiere of Mānuka Phuel Full Metal Orchestra. Combining next-level production, top-tier rock musicians, a symphony orchestra, and an unforgettable metal setlist will create extraordinary results.”
Alex McDonald, co-creator of Mānuka Phuel, also praised the partnership. “We share a commitment to innovation and high-energy performances, and we’re excited to deliver this epic musical experience,” he said.
Tickets for the event will go on sale in two weeks.
