A recent post by graphic designer Shawn Vandergriff, showcasing his “White Rapper Mount Rushmore,” has gone viral, sparking intense debates across social media.
Vandergriff shared the illustration on Facebook, which highlights what he considers the greatest white rappers of all time. His “Mount Rushmore” includes Eminem, Mac Miller, Paul Wall, and Russ. The image quickly drew mixed reactions from online users, with some agreeing with the choices while others strongly disagreed, arguing that other notable artists should have been included.
Critics suggested that rappers like Aesop Rock, G-Eazy, Macklemore, Action Bronson, El-P, and even Vanilla Ice deserved a spot in the lineup. The debate around who belongs on the list escalated as fans shared their thoughts on social media.
Cam’ron and Mase recently weighed in on the debate during an episode of It Is What It Is. Mase struggled initially to come up with his picks, asking, “There’s only like two white rappers. Who is there? Eminem? Who else?” He eventually added Millyz to the list and considered Machine Gun Kelly or Yelawolf as possible choices. Mase also gave an “honorable mention” to the Beastie Boys.
Cam’ron agreed that Eminem was an obvious choice but made a case for 3rd Bass. He argued that the group helped pave the way for future white hip-hop artists during a time when acceptance in the Black community was limited. “They had the Black community when it was really hard for a white person to excel in the Black community,” Cam’ron explained.
Although Cam’ron acknowledged Vanilla Ice’s commercial success, he shared that the rapper was not well-received by the hip-hop community. “He sold millions and millions of records, but n**as was like, ‘Get the fck out of here,'” Cam’ron recalled.
Unlike Mase, Cam’ron didn’t include the Beastie Boys in his list. “I wasn’t really a big Beastie Boys fan, to be totally honest with you,” he said. “To me, they was more rock and roll than rap.”
